Dirt, Diapers, and a Dandy Time

When I found out that my cousin and his wife were expecting a third little one, I jumped at the chance to throw Becky a shower. I think that every baby deserves a party, but since this was their third go around at this, I decided to throw caution to the wind and have a little fun with it. We had to celebrate all things BOY and a dirt inspired construction themed party was born. We decorated with piles of dirt, hard hats, little construction vehicles, some traffic signs and lots of yellow, brown and black. The best part (I think) was the fact that we used caution tape to decorate everything. We used it just like streamers and it really did the trick. For our snacks we played around in the mud fountain (aka the chocolate fountain). Becky couldn't have been more thrilled being the chocoholic that she is.
Since this wasn't your ordinary shower, we couldn't do your ordinary games. We had to think a little outside the box, but the theme had to be messy, dirty and all about boys! First we dug in the dirt for some buried treasure (Lego's, worth different amounts of points depending on how small they were). Aunt Lynn was the grand champion - I guess being the mom of three boys (or maybe being the last to go) was an advantage. Then four rounds of Pictionary with clues to draw from each of the following categories: Baby Items, Pregnancy / Giving Birth, Baby Nicknames, and Nursery Rhymes. The twist - they had to draw using chocolate pudding. Nice and messy! Then we had four teams of adventurous pairs to "feed the baby." With both the mommy and the baby blindfolded it made the downing of the bowls of chocolate pudding (yes, again!) quite a riot to watch. Don't worry we covered them all in trash bags so they didn't get their outfits messy, just their faces!Becky received such great gifts. There were lots of great outfits and tons of diapers (just what she needed!)Amanda and I decided that our gift to her would be a diaper cake. They are all the rage these days, and so we thought hey, we could do that ourselves too. After watching several instructions on YouTube we were up to the task. No respectable boy diaper cake would be caught dead with ribbon on it, so the caution tape was perfect. I was decorated with wooden truck puzzle pieces, a construction water bottle, some choice outfits with construction vehicles on them, silverware, an adorable pair of brown (of course!) shoes, a teething ring, and various other baby items. Topped with a CAT dump truck - it was quite a spectacle. (We were pretty proud of our first foray into the business!) We managed to get this cute group shot too!The hostesses and the lady of the hour: Amanda, me, Becky, Jessica, and Megan
It was such a fun morning. Ladies you were great sports with all the crazy games. (Maybe it was the chocolate fountain I bribed them with!) Okay, Brody, now you can come. We can't wait to meet you!
